Around Distant Suns

"A single cloud is floating a mile above me, and I’ve never felt less alone." – Mary, Cloudgazing

Cover of the anthology Around Distant Suns.

The StA-CES anthology "Around Distant Suns" brought writers and exoplanet scientist together to create a story based on contemporary research. Organised and edited by Emma Puranen, each team created either a short story, poem or radio play. The complete anthology was published and is available on guardbridgebooks.co.uk.

I partnered up with Guy Woods, a writer from Scotland. Together, we created the radio play "Cloudgazing". In it, Mary discovers a peculiar cloud and has to find out why it won't stop bothering her. Working together with Guy was a great pleasure. He not only helped bring my research to life in a radio play but also taught me a great deal about story telling and writing. One might expect conflict when writers and scientists work on a project together, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Working together on the Anthology further strengthened my belief that collaborations between scientists and non-scientists are essential and I'm eager to apply my new insights to better communicate my research and making it more accessible to the broader public.
